Meet the Lishe Team
Meet our family and community of gardeners
Lishe = nourish or nutrition. Our brand reflects our native Swahili language.

Years after migrating to Canada from East Africa, we longed for a farm, where we could retreat, refuel and grow culturally-appropriate (nostalgic) foods for our family and invite the community in.

In 2024, we finally found our dream farm property! We are delighted to share our organic gardens with fellow gardeners and to feed our community with fresh, nutritious foods.

Lishe Gardens was started by former professors, filled with a passion for teaching and learning. Our farm is by design reflective of our dream - to pass on our love of nature and valuable hands-on skills to inspire the next generation of gardeners and farmers.

Dr. Lishe (Henry) is the master foodie by profession, with a PhD in Food Science and years of experience in R&D in the food manufacturing space. He lends his analytical and technical skills as the master gardener.

Mama Lishe (Penina), is our master gardener & tree hugger. She believes food and gardening are effective approaches for building community and intercultural relations. A born adventurer and master curator, she often takes garden tours/safaris wherever she travels - check out for her curated photos on our Instagram, Facebook, and You Tube pages. She infuses her creativity in the gardens and her passion for food advocacy and wellbeing.

The farm serves as our live teaching and fun working lab for our two amazing teenagers.
We warmly welcome you to our gardens! Karibuni
